An Army of One - New York Times
Louise Erdrich is a marvelous writer. Her fiction describes the effects on her Chippewa band of Minnesota and the Dakotas of a former American war of occupation and empire - in the Amrican West. This is her description of the effect of Iraq on a young American warrior. We know these signs, so brilliantly described here. I see more and more the interconnecting destruction of lives by the war on Iraqis, on working Americans, on the environment, on the social infrastructure of education and health, and on our young soldiers coming home changed forever, generation after generation.
